The Ceremonial Band is the cornerstone of the 1st Marine Division Band. It combines precision drill movements with inspiring music to showcase our proud military heritage. No Marine Corps ceremony would be complete without this traditional musical element. The 1st Marine Division Ceremonial Band has traveled throughout the United States and internationally, supporting community events, military ceremonies, and parades. Whether performing for the President of the United States, foreign dignitaries, local military commands, or various communities throughout the United States, the 1st Marine Division Band represents the very best of Marine Corps music and is the "Pride of the Division".

While the primary mission of the 1st Marine Division Band is to provide musical support for military parades and ceremonies, they remain versatile in order to accommodate a wide variety of musical requests. In addition to the Ceremonial Band and Wind Ensemble, smaller ensembles are formed such as the Popular Music Group, Jazz Combo, Brass Quintet, Octet Ensemble, and Brass Band.

Wind Ensemble

The Wind Ensemble is regarded as one of the finest military ensembles in the United States today. At full strength, this 50 to 70 man concert band performs traditional marches, overtures, instrumental solos, classical transcriptions, and patriotic favorites. The Wind Ensemble performs regularly throughout Southern California, including annual appearances at the California Center for Arts in Escondido, but has also traveled across and outside the continental United States. Highlight performances include the annual Fleet Week Celebration in San Francisco and Los Angeles, California and the WWI Annual Remembrance Ceremony in Belleau Wood, France.

Popular Music Group

Affectionately known as "Old George", our Popular Music Group (PMG) embodies a wide American spectrum of popular music. Led by a Marine Vocalist, their music styles range from pop, funk, and rock to country and R&B. Their high energy show features original songs and arrangements brought to life by the musicians of the Blue Diamond. The PMG is used at venues that benefit from loud music and best suits community outreach, volunteer events, and family/unit functions. Music amplification is required and can be provided by the Blue Diamond Sound team for audiences of up to 500, and can even operate on battery power for a single set.

Old Breed Brass Band

The “Old Breed Brass Band” performs high-energy acoustic shows, and excels at crowd entertainment both onstage and as a mobile group. Their product is a distinctive blend of jazz improvisation and dance music, pop songs, or heavy funk, often including exciting original compositions and energetic soloists. The Brass Band is an extremely flexible ensemble that is equally comfortable on concert stages, street corners, and festivals as they are in underground venues, sporting events, and community gatherings for families and children. “Old Breed” has appeared at events such as the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah, the 2007 Downtown Disney Magic Music Day in Anaheim, California, and the 2019 Fleet Week in San Francisco, California

Old Breed Brass Band

The Jazz Combo, as an expeditionary version of the Popular Music Group, is ideal for more constrained performances of popular music. Comprised of virtuosic soloists and a rhythm section that takes no prisoners, the group excels at modern and contemporary jazz, funk, and latin music as well as “underground” interpretations of popular songs. They are employed as a feature group for community and educational events, and for crafting an environment of sophistication and professionalism at Commanding General’s social events.
